My Decorating Style

When I think of how to explain my decorating style it’s hard because I love the western/rustic look, but I also love the farmhouse style mixed with some vintage, shabby chic, and antiques. My house includes a combination of all of these themes. I guess you could say I’ve created my own style. Now if only I had a name for it. Any ideas?

My entryway has lots of cowboy boots (we may have a slight addiction, especially because this isn’t all of them), an old barn wood mirror, and a cow hide table runner, which fit the rustic/western theme. However, I’m sure you can spot touches of vintage, farmhouse and shabby chic. My favorite antique is my great grandmas cowbell.

My dining room has a cow hide and cow hide placemats, which fit my western theme, but then most of the decor fits more of the farmhouse/antique style.

I love to incorporate antiques into my decor, especially when they have meaning and belonged to a family member like my great grandpas journals in the bird cage.

My kitchen goes along with a farmhouse theme. However, there are some antiques tucked away too. The pots and pans on top of my top cupboard belonged to my husbands great grandma and the oil lamp on top of my other cupboard belonged to my great grandma.

My living room has touches of farmhouse with the old window, crates, tin, and barn wood.  The barn wood also fits the rustic theme along with my cow hide and cowboy fringe pillows, old cow bells, horse harness, the saddle my grandpa gave me when I was a baby, and a pair of old chaps.

My family room is definitely more western, but I’m sure you can still spot touches from the other themes.

The family room includes our trophy saddles and belt buckles and has old barn wood frames of rodeo pictures. It also includes an old scale and an old window with a picture of my husband and I. One of my favorite pieces is the old wood table, crates, and pullies because they came out of my husbands great grandmas house.

In decorating my house I’ve enjoyed designing my own style. I love being able to incorporate bits and pieces of my husband and my ancestors into the design.

I guess you could say I’m a bit of a “junktiquering” queen. But, hey one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

A special thanks to my grandma Woodward for blessing me with my decorating skills.

Front Porch Lovin

My front porch is seriously one of my favorite things to decorate! I absolutely love that I get to update it with each season. It makes it that much more exciting and gives me something to always look forward to!

With summer around the corner I had a lot of fun playing around with bright colors. The end product turned out great. According to my husband it looks like a junk yard…. a cute one though. He’s lucky he added the “a cute one though.” Luckily for me, my husband gives me the reins and is always sure to comment on the new decor and how much he likes it. Did I luck out or what? I mean the decor changes almost as much as my outfit.IMG_3743

Here are some of the recent porch looks my house has had….

DIY Boot Organization

So after my wedding we had a major crate overload. Thanks to Pinterest I found this idea and decided to put my crates to good use.

Pinterest is almost deceiving because of the “pin now, read later” philosophy. I don’t know about you, but for me the read later never seems to happen.

So when I discovered this idea I put it into action right then. The crates are all different styles, sizes, and shapes. I personally like the mix-matched look.

Sadly this isn’t even half of our boots (we may have a slight addiction). As you can tell there are a few empty spaces from the boots that we are currently wearing.

The crates have definitely served their purpose. They help to keep my entryway organized and tidy while adding a rustic/vintage touch. After all, it’s all about the appearance.

So next time you find a cute Pinterest idea, be sure and put it to work. Most likely you won’t regret it.

This was a fun, simple, easy project!

Wouldn’t be so bad to be in the dog house…

So for Christmas my husband spent endless hours working on what he called “man stuff.” Christmas morning I woke up to find this beauty. Little did I know that “man stuff” could be such a special gift.

It was the sweetest gesture for someone who is not a dog person. When I let my dogs out of the back yard they both jumped on the flatbed trailer and were checking out their new house. So did I! A dog house this nice, who wouldn’t check it out?

Once we got it unloaded and in our back yard I decided to make it a little more girly, sparkly, and personalized. Tait had told me that he was going to put my dogs names on it, but decided to wait and let me do it because he knew I’d come up with a cute way to do it. He knows the way to my heart… The perfect excuse for crafting.

I went to Wal Mart and bought some chalkboards and marker pens to write the girls names on.

I also decided that their house needed a wreath (view DIY wreath blog post for instructions on how to make a deco mesh wreath) so my dear sweet mom made them a wreath while I made their chalk board name signs. Once done I hung the wreath and signs with a simple hammer and a couple nails.

The end product turned out absolutely perfect! It was so fun to add a little glitz and glam to this fancy dog house.

Who needs Santa when you’ve got Grandma???

I got to decorate my mother in law’s house for Christmas this past week. It was so much fun! I love love love to decorate! She’s been worried that her grandkids will think their grandma is boring if she didn’t get her Christmas up. We just couldn’t have that so we got it done before we leave for Vegas for the NFR for about 10 days.

Model baby Eleni sure loves grandmas Christmas tree.

My mother in law has each child and grandchild a custom stocking made. The two empty hooks are for the two grand babies. They are ordered, but we she doesn’t have them yet.

My mother in law’s favorite decoration is this cute small sign that says “sorry about grandma”

I hope you all have as much fun decorating for Christmas as I do!

My Favorite Spot

The other day I was scrolling through my instagram looking for a picture and was surprised to find that I have never posted a picture of my favorite spot. Of all the times I’ve decorated and redecorated my house nothing beats this ledge. It is the one place I never change because I love it just how it is.

My favorite spot

For those of you who don’t know me well, I’m sure you’ll be surprised to learn that I love antiques. On of the reasons this ledge is my favorite is because of all the antiques. The saddle that you see in the picture was given to me by my grandfather when I was a baby. The crates and horse harness came from my husbands grandfather. Antiques are so much more special when they are passed down from generation to generation.

I hope you all have just as meaningful of a spot in your home.

Christmas Decor

Between holiday vacations and our annual NFR trip Christmas arrives in the blink of an eye. Therefore, I put my Christmas up early this year. I know, we haven’t even eaten turkey yet, but after Thanksgiving we are only home for a couple of days before we head out to Vegas. And once we get home from Vegas Christmas is practically here.

Additionally, I love Christmas and everything that it stands for. The music, gift giving, the decorations, remembering Christ and the true meaning of Christmas, I love it all. It’s such a giving and happy time of year. If my husband would allow it I would probably keep my Christmas decorations up year round. Christmas is the perfect occasion for DIY crafts and projects. So far this year I’ve made garland for my fireplace/front door and the cutest Christmas bulb wreath.

DIY tutorials are COMING SOON.

Christmas gives me the perfect occasion to redecorate my house. If I could make a living as an interior designer/decorator in my small town I would be in heaven. I absolutely love to redecorate my house. My husband is so sweet and notices almost every change. I have no clue what he really thinks, but he always tells me it looks good.

I’d love for you to share any additional tips or decorating ideas that you may have this holiday season.

I Love Junk!!! (I think of them as antiques)

This past weekend I went up north thanks to my good girlfriend, for inviting me to an antique sale. The antique sale was in a storage unit and was full of all kinds of deals!!! We got so much stuff we had to constantly have one of us guarding our pile!! People kept trying to shop in our pile (because we got such cute things) so it kept us on our toes.

Guarding our pile

My mom was the best at guarding the pile lets be honest

Once we payed we had to figure out how the heck we would fit it all in my truck. Which was quite the task! The bed and back seat were packed full. We all three had to cram in the front seat.

The best part about buying new antiques is that I got to come home and redecorate!!! If you know me, you know how much I love decorating.

Here are some photos of my redecorated house.

My favorite purchase is my cute green table! I love the color it brings to my house! I love it all though! Antiques are so fun to decorate with. I love the old rustic vintage look.
